my artwork and visualization

Synesthesia means that my senses sometimes crossover and I smell words, see nouns in shapes and colors, and even taste certain concepts. I've always seen weekdays as round, gray, red, and pink. Pareidolia means I see shapes, images, and patterns in clouds, on a dirty windshield, in rock formations, and in trees. As a child I sometimes lay on my bed, stared up at the spackled popcorn ceiling and found cartoon characters, animals, and lots of faces. Visualization is a form of meditation. As an artist, I’m naturally inclined to see images in my mind more than words or equations. I never dwell on, or create, ugly images and if my thoughts turn negative, I focus on positive images such as the spiritual beings and symbols both ancient and modern World Religions inspire. In researching my novels, I’ve found inspiration in Egyptian and Maya art and hieroglyphs, ancient Hohokam totem glyphs, and especially in the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas which bring about a fuller understanding of my true nature. The artwork I’ve created for my novels is a reflection of my visualization. To survive, I must always be calm and visualization helps with that.

animal totems

This is the signet of Seshet Akeru, the ancient protagonist of my novel Ten Years Past Cairo. The wand above the lions is the star symbol of the deity of astronomy, Seshat. The two lions are Akeru Ruti; they represent the horizons of the rising and setting sun. They guard the night sky and welcome the deceased into their new lives among the stars.
