I live in the mohave desert

I live in the mohave desert

I am presently living near the Colorado River in the Mohave Desert. I grew up in Portland, Oregon as the middle child of three. For two years I owned a bed and breakfast in Pensacola, Florida. I have a BS in Anthropology, an MA in English, and a law degree from Arizona State University. I’ve penned eight women’s adventure novels along with collections of poetry and autobiographies about my experiences teaching English at universities in China, Thailand, and Kuwait and my tour of duty in the US Army.

I love animals

I live in the mohave desert

I share my rural life with goats, chickens, my husband’s dogs and cats, and my precious “rescued” Doberman Pincher "Red". Over the past twenty years I’ve raised fifteen Dobermans. I thought that episode in my life had ended then I found Red on the site rescueme.org. Red is a reincarnation of all my wonderful dogs that have passed; they were my sons and daughters. In the picture I’m holding one of my two little chihuahuas that accompany me on my early morning walks. They are feisty, sassy little creatures. I love and respect animals. They don’t carry a lot of psychological baggage and they live contentedly in the moment. It’s a manner of being that I aspire to achieve and maintain.

My Doberman pinchers

stopping for the moment

stopping for the moment

Stopping for the moment

Can only be done

When time is still.

It’s the little things –

You see –

Coffee with a friend, the landscape,

An empty thought,

Empty time.

Stopping for the moment,

Can only be done,

When thoughts are cleared.

And then,

In the wake,

(observeth me)

I am alone

Yet,

Surrounded by the sea.

A view of the lake surrounded with trees

The Colorado at sunrise.

Sadly, a twenty year drought is currently drying up the river and its reservoirs Lake Mead and Lake Powell.

Will I be able to continue watering my gardens?
